Hilary Frambes
Artist, Mother, Student, Teacher, Activist.
I've always liked to create things ever since I was a child living in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I have early memories of painting along side my father when I was about four years old. Thoughout high school in the Orlando, Florida area, I continued to take art classes and also entered a few competitions and shows. I worried that I'd never make it as an artist, so I began to explore other majors in college at the University of Florida. I soon discovered that without art, I felt directionless.
I transferred to Columbus College of Art & Design and graduated in 1992 with a BFA in Illustration. I worked for a graphic design firm upon graduation and then left to help my parents with their IS Audit recruiting firm.
After getting married, settling in the Columbus, Ohio area and having two children, I began to do freelance work, joining the local art league, participating in events like plein air paint outs, Via Colori, and Westerflora.

The 2011 Mom Congress Delegates
Last April, I was chosen as the 2011 Ohio Delegate for Parenting Magazine's Mom Congress and travelled to Washington, DC to network with 50 other delegate moms and attend a 3 day conference with speakers in the education field, including Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, The Gates Foundation, RIF, Save the Children, Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" Campaign, Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, and many more wonderful organizations.
I've always been passionate about every child have access to art education in our nation's schools.
I started volunteering in my children's elementary school and began to become interested in teaching. In 2009, started an after school art enrichment program for fourth graders. I felt it was important for kids to have ample opportunity to experience visual arts. We just completed our third year of the program.
This August, I will graduate with a Master in Art Education from the University of Florida's online program. Much of my writing has centered on art education advocacy throughout the program. As part of my capstone/final project, I created art education advocacy videos and this art education advocacy website.
I plan to continue my work as an advocate for art education, and also continue to make art. I hope this site becomes a resource for teachers, parents and students.
